A lot more goes into running a half marathon then just showing up on race day. We want to be there to support you along the way so that you are ready to have a great time on race day. Thanks to our complimentary running clinics, we’ve got all the bases covered, so you can hit the ground running. 

Here are some of the topics we will cover during the clinics: 

  • Water consumption and how to effectively manage hydration levels.
  • Dynamic versus static stretching, before and after a run.
  • Interval training and the underlying benefits.
  • Endurance training and how to progress into a “runner”.
  • Preventing and dealing with injuries.
  • Stride and strike and other stride related mechanics.
  • Breathing techniques
  • Eating before, during, and after workouts.

We will do 4 miles at a conversational pace. These slower runs are the foundation of any half marathon-training plan.

This clinic will pick up the pace as we take on a 4-mile Fartlek training run. Fartlek means, “speed play” and that means we will work in some challenging intervals to our run.

The Happy Valley Half Marathon course has a hill or two; but anyone who comes to this clinic will be ready for it! We will take on 5 hilly miles in this clinic to help you add some elevation into you training.

Get ready to add some intensity with a 5-mile temp run. Tempo runs are the key to improving your lactate threshold or the point at which the body fatigues.

Look Park Dow Pavilion

This clinic will be a 13.1-mile preview of the entire Happy Valley Half Marathon course. We will move at a conversational pace and will take walk breaks to talk about course specific strategies for race day. Most importantly this clinic will give you a lot of confidence and plenty of recovery time before race day.
